san pedro

Trichocereus Pachanoi, San Pedro, Backeberg clone.

No idea how old this is. It has about 40 growing tips on it at the moment, some over four feet tall, some only inches.
Some of the tallest branches got knocked off during transportation and are now doing well in other peoples collections.
This has been tested by human bio-assay and the reports are favorable.
We always have clones of this one for sale.
The spines are short and stick in your fingers. They seem to be designed to snap of in your skin and cause infection and irritation!
You need leather gloves for this one.
Pups easily and grows quickly even for a Pachanoi.

mushroom grow kit results

Golden oyster mushrooms using our mushkitt!

We had this picture sent in from someone in Exeter who bought one of our grow kits to see what would happen,
He used the Golden Oyster live culture supplied with the kit and took this picture of the first apperence of his little mushrooms.
Nice work my friend. Thanks for the picture.
Remember you can send in any pictures you like to shop@the-mush-room.co.uk but we especially like to see things you have got from us. Its nice to see how our friends are getting on!

melted wax

                       Trichocereus Bridgesii 'melted wax'

This little beauty came from a trade with a nice Israeli chap.
It is a semi-monstrose cactus, because, unlike the penis plant, it grows in columns and not clumps.
Apparently this is still hotly debated, so if my description is innacurate please let me know.
By the way I can always be contacted on shop@the-mush-room.co.uk
I hope to get some cuttings of this little beast going soon as well, so look out for more of these rarities soon.
I have been told that this is a potent mescaline container, tested by human bio-assays.

four winds

                        Trichocereus Bridgesii 'four winds'

Came to us all the way from Israel this year in a trade. Four ribbed Trichocereus cactus are not too common, so I was keen to get this into our collection.
According to legend, four ribbers were always the most prized because of their higher active alkaloid content.
True or not, this is an interesting specimen and i look forward to getting some cuttings from it to spread around the world.

penis plant

               Trichocereus Bridgesii Monstrose 'Penis plant'

Well its name says a lot.

Its a Trichecereus Bridgesii with some serious monstrose growth. Just started to push out lots of little pups.
This is a clumping variety with intermittent spines.
Seems to grow best with lots of neglect and sunshine, although is has just survived a -12 degree centegrade winter in an un-heated greenhouse with no adverse effects.

bridgesii 'tai'

                             Trichocereus Bridgesii 'Tai'

A lovely blue columnular cactus.
Named Tai after the Chinese word for very big.
Grows about 6" per year and looking happy here in our neglect greenhouse.
Baby bridgesii should be for sale soon.

big dave

                      Trichocereus Peruvianus 'Big Dave'

Came to us last year as a big, fat healthy Peruvianus and has just kept getting bigger. I am going to be taking a cutting from this at sometime, but as it takes bottle to cut into an old/big cactus, dont hold your breath!
Could do with re-potting as, because it is seed grown, it tends to wobble about in the pot.
It was transported from my barge to my greenhouse on the passenger seat of my Corsa.
Big Dave was not at all impressed with his driving position and decided to take the wheel at a roundabout.
After much swerving and swearing I pushed him back and spent the rest of the day picking spines out of my groin.

Update 13/7/12
************

Big Dave has been re-potted and is happy in his huge pot that should see him right for a few years.
He also has a new friend.
 Meet Little Dave.
Not very original, i know, but it seemed to suit him.
